“Just okay, could have been better.”
The lobby and breakfast area were clean and looked good. Our room was ok, needed updated. The bathtub had black scum in the cracks of the tile, the shower curtain had a very stinky, moldy smell. The pool area was smelly, not clean.
I booked the hotel because the rate was great! I read the reviews and panicked. The stories about the hotel being dirty and ant infested terrified me to the point I was willing to risk money and book a back up hotel. I called the hotel, and expressed my concern. I spoke with Jennifer and she informed me the hotel had recently undergone a renovation. This helped calm my fears but I remained skeptical. I know this is a 2.5/3.0 star hotel so I was not expecting 5.0 accommodations however I was seeking clean and bug free! Upon arrival I spoke with Jennifer and asked to see the rooms before I “officially” checked in. The ROOMS WERE JUST FINE!!!! The renovations were very apparent, the carpet was new, the bathroom counters were new, and in this room the showers appeared new, the chair was new. What a relief! The staff went out of the way to be accommodating and professional. During our stay one of the people in my group became very ill. The staff was PHENOMENAL!! The concern and compassion shown will never be forgotten. As a result of the illness we were required to extend our stay and they gave us a GRET RATE!!!! After a long day at the hospital we returned to our rooms to find wonder gift bags from the hotel manager and staff! The experience that I expected to be a nightmare was the exact opposite. I will ALWAYS return to the property during my visits to Columbia.
“I'm sure you can do better than this!”
This is the worst hotel standing! First off it's over priced for the facility. 109.00 plus tax! Are you serious? The pool was very disgusting, it was a hunter green color, the color you would see in a swump. Get to the room and the carpet looks as if it is wet up daily (old and nasty). They have cordless phones that are out dated, t.v.'s that are outdated, beds have no comforters, etc. Internet stated that there was a nice view. Please! There was construction all around and the view was trees. We checked in around 5:00 p.m. and we were checked out by 5:12 p.m. that same day. My fiance and I refused to stay at this Wingate. They should be shut down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“This Wingate needs Cleaning”
Compared to the Wingate in Lynchburg VA where I had stayed 2 weeks earlier, this Wingate needs cleaning. We were staying for a family reunion and I had recommended the chain to family members. The pool needs cleaning - my neice said it was dirty - and leaving the side door in the pool area open because of the chlorine smell seemed like a security issue. The linens on the bed had hair on them and the pillows were stained. The first floor womens bathroom had a 4ft handrail leaning in a corner of the stall. The breakfast buffet was good the first morning, but the second morning it had been emptied of food before 7am by a busload of departing guests. I emailed my comments to Management and never had any reply. This Wingate does not appear to live up to the standards of other Wingates...
We came to town for a concert, we had no problem checking in early. The girl at the desk was friendly & helpful with local restaurant suggestions. The room was very spacious with a refrigerator & microwave. The jacuzzi tub surprisingly large, Most importantly the shower head was amazing (long hair, very important!). I was a little concerned we'd hear the highway all night but that was not the case. The fitness room was clean & fully functional (which is not the case everywhere). We weren't in the pool much but the hot tub was great and towels were available (again not the case everywhere). Check out was quick & easy, the young man at the counter was friendly & efficient.
